Maplewood police asking for help in fatal pedestrian hit-and-run Saturday night

Maplewood police are asking the public’s help in investigating a hit-and-run crash Saturday night that killed a pedestrian.

Authorities said police and emergency squads called to the crash at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of Lakewood Drive North found the victim in the road. Despite life-saving attempts, the person was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle that struck the person had fled the scene.

Police say the vehicle probably has heavy front-end damage. In addition, a witness spotted a second vehicle, a black sedan, that pulled over briefly and then left the scene.

The victim’s identity and further information about the crash was not available Sunday.
