The death toll in Minnesota from COVID-19 is up to 1,606, with six additional deaths reported Saturday, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.

The health department reported another 731 confirmed coronavirus infections, taking Minnesota’s total cases to 55,188. The actual number of infections likely is much higher as the data only represent those who have been tested for the virus, state officials say.

Saturday’s reported deaths included an individual in their 40s, an individual in their 50s and an individual in their 60s, two individuals in their 70s and an individual in their 90s. The deaths were in Clay, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott and Sherburne counties. Three of the six were from a long-term care or assisted-living facility.

Of the state’s total deaths, 1,226 were long-term care or assisted living center residents.

HOW ARE PATIENTS DOING?

There were 48,119 patients as of Sunday who have recovered to the point where they no longer need to be isolated.

A total of 5,208 patients with COVID-19 have been hospitalized in Minnesota, with 317 hospitalized as of Sunday. Of those patients, 149 are in intensive care.

WHO IS GETTING SICK?

  • Number of health care workers with COVID-19: 6,319
  • The age group with the most infections remains 20-29-year-olds with 13,071 cases.
  • The age group with the most deaths are those in their 80s with 539 deaths.
